Philippe Petit: The Journey Across the High Wire
I watched a TED talk that was about Philippe Petit talking about his talent of doing a card trick, juggling, and especially walking on a high wire. Now, his job is actually walking on high wire. Also, he just made a movie called "The Walk" and people say it is really good and so I think you should watch it. Anyway, so he walks on high wire, but not like any normal person, he walks across a whole valley. Yeah, he said that in the TED talk. In, the TED talk he talked about some words and some of these words are passion, tenacity, intuition faith, improvisation, inspiration. At the end of the TED talk he said something about the Israel festival. So, when he was walking on the high wire he stopped in the middle pulled out a dove, then through it in the air. What happened was that when he through it the bird flew for five seconds then landed on his head. Then, after that it landed on his pole that he balances with. Then, the bird flies again then lands right behind him, on the rope! I don't know what happened to the bird after that, but when he finished he told the mayor that wasn't planned. The mayor said it was fantastic and he took a picture of him when the dove was on his head.
Bully Video Refelction
I watched a video that was about a kid that was getting bullied at school because well, he was gay and so he went to court to make every school pay attention to a student that goes up to the principal and says I am getting bullied, can you please do something about it. In his case he was getting bullied because he was gay. So, all of the boys were making fun of him, just because he was gay. I really learned a lesson, that you should speak up and do the right thing. What I was really surprised about the video is that he ran away to a city were there was other people like him. He was scared and sad, so he went to a lost kid department and he was technically turning himself in. So the person who worked there asked him some questions of what is your home/parents number so she can call. He did not want to tell her, but he so desperate to go back that he did. She called right away and his parents came as quickly as they can. That really affected his family a lot. The action that he did was really bad and that instead of running away from it he should confront it. We are called to help people not let them down.
PROPS for faith
In the short story, PROPS for faith by Ursula Hegi, she tells the story of two girls that are best friends with each other. They go on a journey of friendship. The setting is in April after World War 2. One of there names are Renate and the other is called Hanna. Hanna is really bothered by a girl at school and Renate invites her to her house and Hanna is so mad that she called her something really harsh that Renate said to leave Hanna. Hanna goes out for a walk where the sky was gray so was she. She walked into a Junk Yard and some dogs were braking at her. She said something gain really mean because of how mad she might of been. She finally got to a lake and grabbed a random rock and tried to skip the rock on the water, but then sank instead. She was trying to find out a way to fix there friendship. She was thing of giving her things like dolls or other toys. Then she remembered when they put holy water at the annual blessing of vehicles. Then she had a perfect idea of getting holy water to heal her left leg. Rante has polio and her friend Hanna tries to help her with some holy water that she "stole" from the church. She sees her at school and asks her to come with her. She questions it, but then she goes with her anyway. They go into Hanna's closet in her house because that is the most private place in her house. So she finally told her what she wanted to show her and she showed her the holy water. See said, "I will heal your leg with this." Renate trust her and so she let her "Heal" her leg, She said it felt so much better, but what really happened was that she feels happy that at lest Hanna tried. Hanna and Renate go to a circus and they had really fun there. She finally had trust up to that point in her relationship. The point of this short story is to teach that you have to have faith and relationships are really important. I talked about relationships on my Heart of a Samurai and it was kind of off, but I think I got the points of relationships. I really liked the short story in the middle to end.
Huntington Library
Today March 7 2016 we had a museum walk of our poets and it was really nice seeing most of the poets there. The poets that I liked was Edgar Allan Poe, Shel Silverstein, and William Shakespeare. Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1809 an died October 7, 1849. His mother dies of tuberculosis when he was thirteen. He got adopted when his dad did not want to take care of him anymore. He had a stepmother for a long time until she died also because of tuberculosis. Why I like him is because of his poems and how they are dark and beautiful. Shel Silverstein is also one of my favorites because he wrote the book the giving tree and that book is one of my favorite books of all time. He was born on September 25 1930 and died May 10 1999 because of a heart attack. The poem that I like the most that he wrote about is Hug O’ War. It is a poem that shows that we should not use violence, but kindness. The poems are fun and happy not like Eagar Allan Poe's poems that his are dark and gloomy. His poems are good for Halloween. We actually read "The Raven" for Halloween. Any way my third favorite poet is William Shakespeare. Mostly everyone knows who he is because of reference or just because of his poems. I like I'm because of the poems he does especially because they rhyme. He was born on April 26 1564 and died April 23, 1616. I lie all of his poetry. The poetry project was really fun and I really liked dressing up. I wore my brothers clothes and my school pants. I made the mustache from makeup and the hat I bought at New York like five years ago and it still fits!

The Pearl summary chapter 1
The story starts off with Kino waking in the dark of very early morning.
There are roosters and pigs outside, and he lives in a brush house, so we know we’re dealing with someplace rural.
Kino looks over at Juana, his wife, and his son Coyotito who is sleeping in a hanging box.
Juana is awake, as per usual. She never sleeps while Kino is awake.
He closes his eyes and listens to the sound (he calls it a "song") of the waves on the beach outside (more setting clues).
Actually, he calls it "the Song of the Family," since he knows his people have been hearing it for many generations back (he’s a native).
Juana gets up and goes to check on their son and makes corncakes on a grinding stone while Kino heads outside and watches the dawn.
As a dog curls up near Kino, we are told that "It was a morning like other mornings and yet perfect among mornings."
He listens to his wife singing and thinks that too is part of the family song; that it is warm and safe and whole.
Kino and his wife have breakfast together without talking; notbecause there’s latent hostility or dissatisfaction; rather, they don’t need speech to communicate.
And then… something happens. Both Kino and Juana see a scorpion on the hanging cradle and freeze in place. Kino then "hears" another "song," this time "the Song of Evil." Juana mumbles protective chants under her breath. Kino, meanwhile, decides that action would be better than no action. He moves silently across the room and reaches his hand ever-so-gently toward the scorpion. The scorpion, being a creature of acutely sensitive hearing, raises its very poisonous tail in caution. Then, Coyotito, being a baby who has absolutely no idea what’s going on, shakes the cradle, dropping the scorpion inside. Kino grabs the creature and mashes it to a paste, but not before it strikes Coyotito. Juana takes the screaming baby and tries to suck out the poison; Kino feels helpless. Meanwhile the screaming alerts the neighbors, Juan Tomás and "his fat wife Apolonia" and their four children. Everyone realizes the baby may die Kino takes a moment to marvel at how strong his wife is, since she can withstand pain and starvation as well (or better) than any man. At the moment, though, she tells him to go get a doctor. The spectators all whisper about how the doctor will never come out here to the poor people and their brush houses, since he attends to the rich folk in the plaster abodes in town. Juana, afraid they are right, decides that they should go to the doctor instead. The spectators follow. The people in town add to the mix, so now the poor trio has a grand following as they make their way to the doctor’s house. The beggars in particular watch the scene; they know everything, the narration tells us, since they watch the townspeople going into confession and can read their sins on their faces. The beggars also know how cruel the doctor is, which doesn’t bode well for the sick baby. Kino hesitates, reflecting that the doctor’s race has been robbing and despising his own race for hundreds of years. He tries to control his anger at such unfair treatment while knocking on the door. When a servant opens the gate, Kino delivers the news "in the old language." The servant, however, refuses to answer in the same dialect. We cut to the doctor, who is appropriately sitting in bed in his gown of "red watered silk that had come from Paris" and drinking from a cup of eggshell china in a silver tray. And he has religious paintings around his room. When the servant comes in with the news of a "little Indian baby" stung by a scorpion, the doctor responds that he’s not a veterinary and therefore doesn’t cure Indians. Ugh, what a racist. But he does ask if they have any money. The servant goes back to inquire about the cash situation; Kino pulls out eight small, misshapen pearls that are "nearly valueless."The servant takes the pearls, goes inside, returns and gives them back, and reports that the doctor is out, which isn’t even a good lie.The crowd feels the wave of shame passing over Kino and leaves; Kino stands at the gate long after until, in anger, he strikes it with his fist and splits his knuckles open.
The Pearl Summary chapter 2
On the shores of the estuary, a set of blue and white canoes sits in the sand. Crabs and lobsters poke out from their holes, and algae and sea horses drift aimlessly in the nearby currents. Dogs and pigs scavenge the shoreline for sea drift in the hazy morning. Amid this scene, Kino and Juana walk down the beach to Kino’s canoe. They are going to search for pearls, desperately hoping to find a pearl of sufficient value to persuade the doctor to treat the poisoned Coyotito. The canoe, an heirloom passed down to Kino from his paternal grandfather, is Kino’s sole asset in the world. Kino lays his blanket in its bow. Juana rests Coyotito upon the blanket and places her shawl over him to protect him from the sun. She then wades into the water and collects some seaweed, which she applies gently to Coyotito’s wound. Kino and Juana slide the canoe into the water, Juana climbs in, and Kino pushes the boat away from shore. Once Kino boards, the two begin paddling out to sea in search of pearls. In a short time, they come upon other canoes, which have clustered around the nearest oyster bed. Kino makes a dive to collect oysters, while Juana stays in the canoe, praying for luck. He stays under water for over two minutes, gathering the largest shells, including one especially enormous oyster that has a “ghostly gleam.” Climbing back into the canoe, Kino is reluctant to examine the largest oyster first. After halfheartedly pawing at a smaller one, eagerness overcomes him, and Juana softly urges him to open the prize catch. Kino cuts the shell open to reveal the biggest pearl that either of them has ever seen. Nearly breathless, Juana shrieks in astonishment to find that Coyotito’s wound has improved in the presence of the great pearl. Kino, overcome with emotion, tenses his entire body and lets out a resounding yell. Startled by this unexpected display, the other canoes quickly race toward Kino and Juana to uncover the source of the commotion.
The Pearl Summary chapter 3
Word of Kino’s discovery travels quickly. Even before Kino returns to his brush house, everyone in town knows that he has found “the Pearl of the World.” Throughout town, people of every class—from the beggar to the businessman to the priest—dream of how Kino’s pearl can help them. Like everyone else, the doctor who turned Kino away desires the pearl. Ignorant of others’ jealousy, Kino and Juana delight in their good fortune, inviting family and friends to share their joy in their newfound treasure. When Juan Tomás asks Kino what he will do with his wealth, Kino details his plans: a proper marriage in the church, new clothing for the family, a harpoon, and a rifle, among other things. Kino’s new boldness amazes Juana, especially when he expresses his desire for Coyotito to be sent to school and educated. Kino himself is surprised somewhat by his own resolute statement, and all of the neighbors stare at the mighty pearl with a mixture of hope and fear at the enormous changes that lie ahead. As dusk approaches, Juana revives the fire, and the neighbors overstay their welcome. Near dark, the priest comes to deliver a benediction. Once he has blessed the household, he asks to see the pearl. Dazzled, the priest implores Kino to remember the church in his new prosperity. Juana announces their intention to be married in the church, and the priest leaves them with a kind word. A sense of evil overcomes Kino in the wake of the priest’s visit. The neighbors disperse to their own suppers, and Juana begins to prepare a meal of baked beans. Kino huddles beneath a blanket in the cold night, keeping the pearl close to his body. Plagued with continued ill feeling, Kino meditates on the former security of his family, and on the menacing uncertainty into which their newfound fortune has cast them. From the door of his brush house, Kino watches two men approach. The figures prove to be the doctor and his servant, who have come to examine Coyotito’s wound. Kino brusquely dismisses the doctor’s attentions, but when the doctor makes a sinister insinuation about the lingering potential for infection, Kino relents and allows him to enter. Juana is extremely suspicious of the doctor, but Kino reassures her. When the doctor examines Coyotito, he contends that he has found evidence of complications and produces a capsule of medication that he proceeds to administer. Claiming that the poison will strike within an hour and that the medicine may prove lifesaving, the doctor declares that he will return in an hour to check on Coyotito’s progress. As Juana stares at Coyotito with concern, Kino realizes that he has been careless in not guarding the pearl. Without delay, he wraps the pearl in a rag, digs a hole, and buries the pearl in a corner of the brush house, concealing the hiding place from view. As Kino eats his supper, a small black puppy lingers in the doorway and shakes its tail nervously. Afterward, Juana alerts Kino that Coyotito’s condition is growing worse, and she sings soothingly in an effort to comfort the baby. When Coyotito becomes visibly ill, an evil feeling fills Kino once again.
